SUMMARY:Queer Film Club: Tchindas
DESCRIPTION:Screening of the documentary Tchindas for Queer Film Club.\n\n\nJoin us for a screening of Tchindas at LUX! \nAbout the film: Tchindas \nCalm reigns in Sâo Vicente\, a small Cape Verdean island (off the West Coast of Africa) where most of the people have never moved away. In Mindelo we meet Tchinda\, one of their most beloved women\, especially after coming out as a transgender person in the local newspaper in 1998. Since then\, her name has become the way local people call queer Cape Verdeans. Tchinda sells “coxinhas” by day and in the evening is responsible for security at her bar as music and grog\, the famous local rum permeates every corner of the island. In February the island evolves as thousands of people pack into the streets for Carnival. \nNote: The cost of the ticket covers the hiring of the film. \nAbout Queer Film Club \nQueer Film Club hold bi-monthly screenings at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre and other queer venues. \nAfter each screening\, there will be a community chat to share and unpack our thoughts about the film. \nFilmmakers will sometimes join this discussion\, while other events will be attendee-only chats. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Improv Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A drop-in workshop for LGBTQ+ people. No experience necessary!\n\n\nA drop-in workshop for LGBTQ+ people of any experience level. Improv is all about collaboration and saying yes to people’s ideas. Follow your spontaneity\, trust your gut and you’ll be surprised at what worlds you can create. \nImprov is not just about being funny; improv is an amazing way to help people dealing with social anxiety or for people that want some practice feeling a little more free in their public speaking. \nThis is a low-stakes workshop where we can share some laughs and maybe even make some new friends. Through games and exercises we’ll create stories\, characters and learn the fundamentals of improvisation. \nNote: Please ensure that you arrive on time for this workshop. We will cover our code of conduct and accessibility in the first five minutes. \nUnfortunately we aren’t able to permit anyone who arrives late as it’s mandatory to take part in the first part of the session. \nPlease get in touch with us if you know you’ll be running late and we will try to accommodate where we can! \nAbout the facilitator: \nSam Roulston (he/him) is an award winning Comedian and Writer based in London. \nHe recently returned to the UK after living in Toronto for several years where he worked as a comedian and member of faculty at the Second City comedy theatre. Sam also performs/teaches at comedy festivals all over the world. Some of the most recent festivals include Mama City Improv Festival (Capetown)\, Hell Yes Fest (New Orleans)\, The Del Close Marathon (New York City)\, Detroit Improv Festival and Improv Fest Ireland (Dublin). \nAccessibility: \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid and mpox safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre: \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling unwell including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough\, chills and unusual spots\, scabs or ulcers. \nMasks and hand sanitiser are provided free of charge. \nFor current information on Covid-19 and mpox please visit the NHS website.
