SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Morning Yoga
DESCRIPTION:An hour of yoga for LGBTQ+ people of all abilities\n\n\nJoin us for an hour of yoga at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. \nYoga is held on an ad-hoc basis on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am – 12pm. Please check Eventbrite for any changes and ensure you have registered before attending. Yoga mats are provided but please bring your own if you wish. \nSessions are charged on a pay-what-you-can basis. All payments go towards supporting the ongoing work of the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. \n\nDiscover the meaning behind common yoga postures and their benefits\nBriefly explain foundational poses like downward-facing dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)\, Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) and lunges\nYoga philosophy – gain insights into ethical guidances and inner observances of yoga known as the Yamas and Niyamas\nExplore the concept of Chakras (energy centres in the body)\nQ&A: your opportunity to ask any questions you have about yoga\, its practices and philosophy!\n\nAbout the facilitators \nMorning yoga is run by a rotating group of LGBTQ+ volunteers\, all of whom are professionally qualified yoga instructors. \nAccessibility: \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre: \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough or chills. \nMasks and hand sanitiser are available for use free of charge. SUMMARY:Sip and Stitch: Scrap Textile Collage Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A beginner’s introduction to the world of abstract and experimental collage with textiles.\n\n\nA beginner’s introduction to the world of abstract and experimental collage with textiles. \nThis workshop begins with an overview of basic embroidery stitches followed by collage exploration using scrap and discarded textile materials. Freely explore a material or idea using intuition and creative stitching techniques in an inclusive and encouraging environment. Develop the confidence to engage with textiles in a therapeutic way\, and meet more like minded creative queer people in the process! \nBoth beginners and those with experience are welcome. \nPhotos in the image slider from facilitator Cristina Rago. \nAbout the facilitator \nCristina Rago (they/them) is a trans non-binary Filipino American multidisciplinary artist. Their artistic practice spans painting\, textiles\, and mixed media to explore identity integration\, healing\, and reparation from a queer perspective.  \nTheir textile pieces often utilise domestic materials including discarded clothes\, cheesecloth\, and doilies that are reworked through processes such as dyeing\, destruction and mending.  \nThis cyclical process becomes a holistic act of self-reckoning\, and an integration of past selves and thought patterns with the present.  \nCristina works with individuals to foster their creativity through mentorship\, guidance\, and practical workshops.
