DESCRIPTION:Join Dope Black Queers for The Werkroom\, a series of workshops facilitated by a member of the community who’ll lead you in nurturing your skills and talents. \nDope Black Queers is an space for and by the Black LGBTQIA+ community\, to provide grounding\, connection\, and to feel seen & heard. \nThe Werkroom is a series of workshop in collaboration with a guest facilitator who will lead us in the exploration of our skills and talents. \nCome meet new people\, build a community\, and dedicate yourself to nurturing you. We are incredibly excited to welcome Nkenna Akunna to lead us in a Creative Writing workshop\, exploring Grief and Mourning Tradition. \nNkenna Akunna (she/they) is an Igbo playwright\, performer and lecturer from London whose work primarily explores friendship\, time\, labour\, and power. Her debut play cheeky little brown opened at Bristol Old Vic to critical acclaim. They are also Editor at Large at Skin Deep Media\, a collective that makes space for Black creatives and creatives of colour through cultural production. \nThis event is exclusively for the Black LGBTQIA+ community! (Allies are welcome to donate to help continue our work.) \nComplimentary snacks will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Join Queer Global for a QTIPOC social mixer and storytelling workshop at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre! \nAs part of our heritage project\, this special event features interactive icebreakers at the intersection of queerness\, history\, and identity. Together\, we’ll delve into the ways our pasts—both personal and collective—shape who we are today. \nWhat to expect: \n5:30pm – Doors open – settle in and grab a refreshment \n5:45pm – Welcome and introduction – learn more about the Queer Global Heritage Project \n6:00pm – Fun and interactive mixer \n6:30pm – Creative workshop – reflect on your journey by writing a letter to your younger self or another young queer person \n7:00pm – Event concludes – with time to connect informally afterward \nWhy attend? \n•⁠ ⁠Participate in a meaningful creative writing activity\, with the opportunity to contribute your letter to a public exhibition at Chiswick House and Gardens \n•⁠ ⁠Be part of a wider heritage initiative amplifying QTIPOC stories through interviews\, media\, and exhibition \n•⁠ ⁠Meet like-minded individuals and build community \nAdditional details: \n•⁠ ⁠Free to attend; booking required \n•⁠ ⁠Books available for purchase (including signed copies) \n•⁠ ⁠Letters created during the workshop can be featured in our project exhibition and documentary (with consent) \n•⁠ ⁠Refreshments available at the venue \nThis event is made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. SUMMARY:Life Drawing the Queer Body
DESCRIPTION:Home Studio invites members of the queer and trans Global Majority community to learn life drawing with nude models taught by Maya Vivas. \nThis event is created for people who are part of both communities: Black or Global Majority and queer or trans. Thank you for respecting this intentional space. \nWithin a small intimate group\, artists will be able to learn new techniques of drawing or practice what they already know with the intention of fostering relationships with fellow artists over the course of five classes throughout the year. \nMaya Vivas is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums such as ceramic\, performance\, painting\, social practice and installation. Maya has exhibited work\, spoken on panels and hosted workshops at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art\, The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts\, Louisiana State University and Yale. Vivas is also co-founder of Ori Gallery. Whose mission is to redefine “the white cube” through amplifying the voices of Queer and Trans Artists of color\, community organizing and mobilization through the arts. \nIn the beginning we will have an introduction of each other and the Home Studio project. We will each share what drew us to gather around life drawing and then Maya will spend 10-15 mins explaining their technique. The class will then begin to draw in 20 minute intervals of live posing with 5 minute breaks in between.
