SUMMARY:Dope Black Queers: The Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Forum x BQC Groups – a special collaboration between Dope Black Queers and Black Queers Connect! We’re excited to co-host this month’s forum with Black Queers Connect on the topic of Mourning Tradition. Come\, meet new people\, build a community\, and share your perspective. \nWhether you feel it has been purposefully eradicated\, a consequence of not being practiced enough\, or even something that feels at odds with your identity. How do we reckon with that\, and in what ways can we make space for ourselves in those traditions? \nThis is an event where we can really talk about the things that matter to us\, to raise questions and find answers both for ourselves and for others. Our specific life experiences give each of us different perspectives\, and that is what we want everyone to come and share\, because it is in the specifics that we can relate and build community. Whilst participation is encouraged\, no one has to share if they don’t want to. But the more interaction\, the more there is to learn. \nEventh highlights: \n\nGames\, open discussions\, connection and grounding\nFacilitators: Quamina + Chloe (DBQ) & Nic Farmer (BQC)\nSafer Space Holder: Julie-Anne Ntege will be present to offer support throughout the event.\n\nThis event is exclusively for Black LGBTQIA+ folks. (Allies can support by donating.) \nAbout Dope Black Queers (DBQ): Dope Black Queers is a space created by and for the Black LGBTQIA+ community to foster grounding\, connection\, and visibility. The Forum follows a Town Hall-style format — less like a panel\, more like an open discussion where every voice matters. \nAbout Black Queers Connect (BQC): Black Queers Connect empowers Black LGBTQ+ adults in the UK by creating inclusive spaces for connection and support. SUMMARY:Life Drawing the Queer Body
DESCRIPTION:Home Studio invites members of the queer and trans Global Majority community to learn life drawing with nude models taught by Maya Vivas. \nThis event is created for people who are part of both communities: Black or Global Majority and queer or trans. Thank you for respecting this intentional space. \nWithin a small intimate group\, artists will be able to learn new techniques of drawing or practice what they already know with the intention of fostering relationships with fellow artists over the course of five classes throughout the year. \nMaya Vivas is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums such as ceramic\, performance\, painting\, social practice and installation. Maya has exhibited work\, spoken on panels and hosted workshops at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art\, The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts\, Louisiana State University and Yale. Vivas is also co-founder of Ori Gallery. Whose mission is to redefine “the white cube” through amplifying the voices of Queer and Trans Artists of color\, community organizing and mobilization through the arts. \nIn the beginning we will have an introduction of each other and the Home Studio project. We will each share what drew us to gather around life drawing and then Maya will spend 10-15 mins explaining their technique. The class will then begin to draw in 20 minute intervals of live posing with 5 minute breaks in between. At the end there will be an opportunity to share and receive feedback. \n\nNo printouts needed\nNo handouts needed aside from materials\nThere are moments to socialise between intervals\, moments to observe others work.\nNo groups will be assigned.\nWe do not have access to a BSL interpreter but there is an app we can use\n\nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough\, and chills. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:Dope Black Queers: The Forum
DESCRIPTION:Dope Black Queers is an space for and by the Black LGBTQIA+ community\, to provide grounding\, connection\, and to feel seen & heard. \nThe Forum follows a Town Hall Meeting format\, less like a panel\, but more of an open floor discussion. \nThis is an event where we can really talk about the things that matter to us\, to raise questions and find answers both for ourselves and for others. \nOur specific life experiences give each of us different perspectives\, and that is what we want everyone to come and share\, because it is in the specifics that we can relate and build community. \nWhilst participation is encouraged\, no one has to share if they don’t want to. \nBut the more interaction\, the more there is to learn. \nCome\, meet new people\, build a community\, and share your perspective. This month’s topic will be looking at Books and Literature. What are the stories that made you feel? Who is a writer that forces you to think? Have you felt represented by the words on a page? Which Black queer authors can you recommend? \nThis event is exclusively for the Black LGBTQIA+ community! (Allies are welcome to donate to help continue our work.) \nComplimentary cakes provided. Affordable teas and coffees are available for purchase on-site. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre: \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. SUMMARY:SWANA Queer Network
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to The SWANA Queer Network! \nThese social gatherings have been an absolute joy. We hope you can make the next one on Saturday 26 October. \nThis group welcomes LGBTQ+ people from S.W.A.N.A (South West Asia and North Africa) regions\, their lovers and diaspora. This big social gathering is an opportunity to meet new people\, make friends and connect. \nAs SWANA Queers our hearts are with all of those affected by the ongoing violence and suffering in our beautiful home countries and we come together here in unity\, love and strength. \nWe invite those who wish to bring a small dish of food to do so – we do love a bring and share! (optional). \nPlease try to arrive as early as possible. Although we vacate the space at 8pm\, the group typically continues to socialise after the main event. This is likely to be at a nearby cost-friendly bar.

SUMMARY:Mask Off: Misunderstood\, Misdiagnosed and Missed – A Zine Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A zine workshop for Black and neurodiverse women and non-binary people.\n\n\nJoin the Black & Neurodiverse crew on a fun zine-making activity all afternoon long during our special Queer Black Women and Non-Binary day in light of the UK Black History Month. \nThe collective is currently developing its first web zine\, highlighting experiences of Black and neurodiverse folks in any form they wish. \nMaterials will be provided or you can also bring your own! \nAbout the facilitator: \nNdidi-Amaka Moemeke (she/they) is the founder of Black and Neurodiverse\, an initiative dedicated to creating safe\, inclusive spaces for Black and brown neurodivergent individuals. \nDiagnosed with ADHD in January 2023 after 27 years of living undiagnosed\, Ndidi-Amaka was motivated to start this community after discovering the term “neurodivergent” for the first time last year\, experiencing challenges in obtaining an ADHD referral through the NHS. \nUnderstanding that many Black and brown people face similar challenges\, Ndidi-Amaka aims to foster environments that offer support and connection beyond the confines of home. \nAccessibility: \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nIf you have any access requirements for this event\, get in touch with us at hello@londonlgbtqcentre.org. \nCovid and mpox safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre: \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling unwell including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough\, chills and unusual spots\, scabs or ulcers. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid-19 and mpox please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre: \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.
