With facilitated discussions and different topics and activities each month. \nSunday October 19 – The Gay Bar Graveyard \nAs the leaves begin to fall in October\, we are brought to reflect on spaces\, venues\, events\, and people who are no longer with us. \nSubcultures\, symbols\, and spaces are what brings a lot of LGBTQ+ people together! How do you know someone is part of the community? How did you know back in the day? Were you or have you been part of any LGBTQ+ specific subcultures? Join us in this\, honouring\, sharing\, and connect with other LGBTQ+ people of diverse generations. \nSunday 16 November – From Lonely Hearts to Grinder \nA discussion about the different ways we’ve found each other for love\, connection and community through time. \nYou can expect: \n\nWelcome and introduction in a big group\nConversations in small groups about your experiences with dating\, cruising\, finding queer friends\, community spaces and generally how you’ve found other lgbtq+ people\nReturning to the big group to discuss all together\nYou are welcome to come along just to listen if you’re shy to share\, but bring along your stories if you can 🙂\nFrom the discussion we will add to a display sharing different ways of meeting other LGBTQIA+ folk\n\n \nAbout the facilitators \nBrixton Umbrella Circle is an independent\, peer led\, self-help group for older (50+) LGBTQ’s. It offers a forum for mutual support\, socialising and addressing individual and collective experiences (past and current) in a social\, cultural and political context. \nUmbrellas provide shelter and is used as a term for covering all – and because our hearts and minds can be like umbrellas – useless if we do not open them. \nPatrick (he/him) is a Mexican Stone Butch Drag King\, facilitating the meetup on Sunday 19 October. He is passionate about queer night life and subcultures\, especially intergenerational and multicultural events. \nKim (they/them) from A Whole Orange Matchmaking is facilitating the meetup on Sunday 16 November. DESCRIPTION:This film delves into the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community in Brixton\, focusing primarily on the 1970s and early 1980s.\n\n\nThis film\, led by Ian Townson\, delves into the rich history of the LGBT community in Brixton\, focusing primarily on the 1970s and early 1980s. \n Originally a one-off event\, Ian’s queer tour of Brixton has become a recurring exploration of the area’s vibrant past.  \nThe film highlights the formation and impact of the first-ever gay community centre at 78 Railton Road\, along with the development of squatted communal houses predominantly occupied by gay men.  \nFollowing the screening\, a facilitated conversation and informal Q&A with Ian will take place. \nAbout the organisers \nIan Townson (he/him) is a gay political activist and collector of Brixton gay community’s past and other gay liberation campaigns and events which otherwise would remain hidden from history. Townson was a part of the Brixton gay community initially as a resident of squats occupied by small groups of gay people for several years.  \nKatie Luna Goldfinch (they/them) is a creative facilitator and activist heavily involved in disability justice and queer resistance. DESCRIPTION:A space for anyone experiencing PMDD (diagnosed or undiagnosed) to come and meet other people experiencing this condition.\n\n\nA space for people experiencing PMDD (diagnosed or undiagnosed) to come and meet other people going through this debilitating condition. \nPMDD affects people’s daily lives and relationships and this meetup is to ensure nobody feels alone in what they are experiencing. \nThis will be a relaxed atmosphere where you can chat to one another over a tea/coffee. There will be mindfulness colouring to take part in if you’d like to. \nAbout the facilitator \nMargarita (she/her) has experienced PMDD for years before finding out about the condition itself. DESCRIPTION:This guided meditation group creates a unique space for LGBTQ+ people to foster friendship and practice meditation.\n\n\nThe sessions will feature a variety of mindfulness\, loving-kindness and wisdom meditations. There’ll also be sharing and connecting\, poetry and more. Through this\, we’ll cultivate a warm awareness of our own experience and go beyond the individual to explore how we can grow and flourish as a community. There’ll also be the option to socialise in the cafe area after. \nNo prior meditation experience required. Also suitable for those who are trying to establish a regular practice within a supportive environment. \nSessions are free\, with an optional donation towards establishing a permanent LGBTQ+ community centre. DESCRIPTION:Created to give you space\, and support\, to explore what wellbeing and empowering self-care look like for you.\n\n\nThe Self-Care Sanctuary is a relaxed and joyful two-part workshop. \nBook a ticket for part two. In order to join these workshops\, you will need to attend part one and part two. You only need to attend one workshop from part one and two – so select your preferred dates! \nThe Self-Care Sanctuary was created to give you space\, and support\, to explore what wellbeing and empowering self-care look like for you. We will draw on neuroscience and a range of wellbeing practices including meditation\, dance\, journalling\, nature work\, breathing\, drawing\, gentle movement\, and community. \nThese workshops are an LGBTQ+ space where stories\, wisdom\, and kindness are celebrated. Recognising that each of you will bring your own self-knowledge and curiosity to the topic of self-care and wellbeing. \nAfter the workshops you will have the techniques and resources to shape your own self-care toolkit. As well as the opportunity to make connections and learn from each from each other. \nPart one is taking place on Monday 16 June and Monday 7 July 2025 (so you can pick a date that works for you). Part two is happening from Sep-Dec 2025. \nAbout the facilitator \nSal (they/them) has been working in People Development for over 10 years with a focus on wellbeing\, inclusion\, and authenticity. Sal uses positive psychology and a facilitative approach to create spaces for people to explore what wellbeing and empowered self-care feels like for them. \nSal holds a MSc in People Development from Birkbeck\, University of London. They combine their decade of practical experience with research and working internationally to ensure the advice they give is robust and anchored in best practice. With a focus on curiosity and kindness Sal leads workshops in a supportive and joyful way. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a creative workshop that celebrates our shared stories and East\, South and Southeast Asian queer and trans lineages.\n\n\nJoin us for a care-centred\, imaginative and creative workshop that celebrates our shared identities\, stories and East\, South and Southeast Asian queer and trans+ lineages. \nAncestral Transmissions invites participants to explore themes of belonging\, identity\, grief\, love and community through creating a ‘collective portal’ through collaging – a process of creating\, healing\, connecting and imagining together. \nThrough intuitive making and imagining\, guided by gentle prompts\, we’ll connect to our ancestors (real or imagined) and offer transmissions to future queer generations. This practice will encompass connecting to the different parts of us\, connecting to the collective and positioning ourselves as future ancestors gathering together in solidarity\, resistance and joy. We will honour that we have always existed in our cultural histories and will continue to exist. \nWe’ll begin with gentle reflection to connect with our ancestors and our ancestral queer histories and practices (real and/or imagined)\, or inner selves\, before co-creating a collective collage – a fabric ‘portal’\, using paint\, collage\, fabrics and textures. \nThis is a relaxed space for LGBTQ+ East\, South\, and Southeast Asian people to connect\, express\, and rest in community. No art experience is needed and all materials will be provided. \nThere are no expectations or pressure to come as anything more than you are and feel on the day. Bring your stories\, your softness\, your silence and anything you’d like to offer to the collective art (this could be a fabric\, a word\, a flower\, a photograph – or just yourself). \nPhotos by Aaran Sian from a previous workshop at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. \nAbout the facilitator \nAaran Sian (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working at the intersection of visual art\, community and speculative futures. \nTheir collaborative\, process-led approach creates space for connection and collective making. DESCRIPTION:A drop-in workshop for LGBTQ+ people. No experience necessary!\n\n\nA drop-in workshop for LGBTQ+ people of any experience level. Improv is all about collaboration and saying yes to people’s ideas. Follow your spontaneity\, trust your gut and you’ll be surprised at what worlds you can create. \nImprov is not just about being funny; improv is an amazing way to help people dealing with social anxiety or for people that want some practice feeling a little more free in their public speaking. \nThis is a low-stakes workshop where we can share some laughs and maybe even make some new friends. Through games and exercises we’ll create stories\, characters and learn the fundamentals of improvisation. \nNote: Please ensure that you arrive on time for this workshop. We will cover our code of conduct and accessibility in the first five minutes. \nUnfortunately we aren’t able to permit anyone who arrives late as it’s mandatory to take part in the first part of the session. \nPlease get in touch with us if you know you’ll be running late and we will try to accommodate where we can! \nAbout the facilitator \nSam Roulston (he/him) is an award winning Comedian and Writer based in London. \nHe recently returned to the UK after living in Toronto for several years where he worked as a comedian and member of faculty at the Second City comedy theatre. DESCRIPTION:By exploring yourself through breath you’ll learn the tools which are useful every day if you find yourself in a stressful situation.\n\n\nWe start of by shaking off our body’s to lose tension\, once we’ve done a quick shake we settle down in a sacred circle\, checking the way we breathe without controlling our breath. DESCRIPTION:This guided meditation group creates a unique space for LGBTQ+ people to foster friendship and practice meditation.\n\n\nThe sessions will feature a variety of mindfulness\, loving-kindness and wisdom meditations. Through this\, we’ll cultivate a warm awareness of our own experience and go beyond the individual to explore how we can grow and flourish as a community. Also suitable for those who are trying to establish a regular practice within a supportive environment. \nSessions are free\, with an optional donation towards establishing a permanent LGBTQ+ community centre.
