SUMMARY:Kings for Life (Drawing) Class
DESCRIPTION:A Drag King/Thing Life Drawing Workshop for artists to experience drag in a new way and drag artists to gain a new skill in life modelling.\n\n\nJoin us for an exciting life drawing workshop dedicated to providing a platform for Drag Kings/Things to model and offering artists a unique experience in capturing the essence of drag through art. \nOur inclusive sessions cater to all skill levels\, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned artist like the next David Hockney! Each pose is timed\, and we may suggest different drawing techniques to inspire and warm up your artistic flow. \nWhat You’ll Need: \n\nDrawing Surface: Get creative—paper\, an iPad\, or cardboard boxes!\nDrawing Materials: Anything goes—pencils\, charcoal\, pastels\, or paints. It’s a perfect opportunity to experiment and try something new!\n\nPose breakdown will be 4 x 5 minutes\, 2 x 10 minutes\, 3 x 15 minutes\, and 1 x 20 minutes (as time allows). \nCome along\, settle in and drawing starts just after 5.30pm. \nPlease bring your own materials (Although we generally have a few pads and pencils on hand in case!). All skill levels\, genders and orientations are welcome. \nImportant: Recording of the session is not permitted. \nAs with all our sessions\, Nudity is not part of this workshop. It is up to the model’s comfort level when posing how much or little clothing they will wear and being mindful of other patrons in the space\, as it will not be private. \nOur main priority is to create a safe environment for the talent. \nThat said\, sometimes sessions do veer towards the erotic/kink based on the model. We ask that you respect the model’s privacy by NOT taking any photos or recordings during the session. \nTicket sales contribute to paying our models\, covering hire fees\, and ensuring we can continue providing these fantastic sessions. \nFollow us on Instagram for more updates and to build a vibrant\, creative community together! \nAbout the facilitator \nMatt David (they/them) is a queer artist and founder of Kings for Life (Drawing). \nKings for Life (Drawing) is a workshop allowing artists to experience drag in a few ways and be able to draw new and exciting subjects\, as well as drag kings/things to gain new skills in life modelling and gain work outside of just the nightlife scene. \nThey have facilitated multiple creative workshops\, including Self Portrait workshops for Positive East\, alongside making their own artwork with a focus on portraiture and life drawing. \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid-19 safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nMasks and hand sanitiser are available free of charge. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the CentreWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:Fat Liberation Book Club
DESCRIPTION:A book club that celebrates Fat Liberation politics\, ideas and activism in a safer space. \nWe’re back for Book Club! This will be a monthly occurrence with regular breaks so there’s plenty of time to read the source material before coming along to an accessible\, safe discussion with fellow fats and fat allies. If you’re new to fat liberation\, curious about what it is or looking to see how it differs from body positivity\, this is the place for you. \nWe’ll be exploring a mix of non-fiction\, fiction\, poetry\, comic books and everything in between\, with supplementary material from fat academics\, essayists\, TikTokkers\, podcasters and more. \nFor this month’s Book Club we’re looking at Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fatphobia by Sabrina Strings. \nGrab your copy here. \nWe are switching it back to non-fiction for April\, a great opportunity for us to build on our understanding of the ways race and fatness intersect. This insightful book will take us into the past for an eye-opening and in-depth observation on the history of anti-fatness\, anti-blackness and gender prejudice. \nThis is quite a dense text and expect this Book Club to be saturated with valuable and necessary discussion that we want to make sure we leave enough time for. So we’ve split it into two parts. We’ll be looking at Chapters 1-4 for this month\, and May’s Book Club will look at Chapters 5-9\, finishing the tome. \nFrom Goodreads: \n‘Sociologist Strings (sociology\, Univ. of California\, Irvine) explores the historical development of pro-thin\, anti-fat ideologies deployed in support of Western\, patriarchal white supremacy. Beginning in the aesthetic ideals circulated by Renaissance thinkers and artists and bringing her narrative up into the 1990s\, Strings charts how white Europeans and Anglo-Americans developed ideals of race and beauty that both explicitly and figuratively juxtaposed slim\, desirable white women against corpulent\, seemingly monstrous black women.’ \nFor information on how to obtain the audiobook version of this book\, please contact us on Insta @fatliblondon or @fatclubbtn! \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 and/or mpox symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:Genderqueer Buddhist Book Club
DESCRIPTION:A monthly meetup to discuss extracts from Buddhist texts from different traditions through the lens of queerness\, gender\, race\, and climate.\n\n\nA monthly meetup to discuss extracts from Buddhist texts from different traditions through the lens of queerness\, gender\, race\, and climate justice. \nClick here for what we’re reading this month. \nThis event is for both practicing Buddhists\, who may find it difficult to bring these issues into more traditional Buddhist study settings\, and for anyone who would like to discuss daily life and philosophical issues through a Buddhist lens. \nGender-conforming queers and allies are also welcome! \nAbout the facilitator \nMatt (they/them) is a Buddhist and self-professed nerd who has been practicing meditation for 7 years. \nThey have had challenges studying in more gendered Buddhist spaces in the past and are looking forward to the opportunity to discuss the intersection between Buddhist practice and queer ways of being. \nRemi (they/them) started meditating four years ago\, while re-assessing life after becoming chronically ill and recovering from burnout. \nThey are particularly interested in how we can apply Buddhist practice and principles to create a joyous liberated future and more sustainable ways of living in the world. \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling unwell including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid-19 please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.
