SUMMARY:Sip and Stitch: Scrap Textile Collage Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A beginner’s introduction to the world of abstract and experimental collage with textiles.\n\n\nThis workshop offers a welcoming introduction to abstract and experimental textile collage\, inviting participants to explore stitch as both material and language. \nWe will begin with a gentle overview of basic embroidery stitches before moving into intuitive collage using scrap and reclaimed textiles. Through layering\, mending\, and mark-making\, participants are encouraged to follow instinct\, memory\, or mood\, and allow the work to emerge slowly. \nStitch inherently invites slowness and proximity. In this shared space\, making becomes a collective experience: a way to explore identity\, care\, and connection through material process. In a culture that prioritises speed and productivity\, this workshop offers a space to slow down and work collectively through thread. \nThis session is beginner-friendly and open to all experience levels. Whether you are new to textiles or returning to it\, you will be supported in experimenting freely within an inclusive and affirming environment while meeting other queer creatives along the way. \nPhotos in the image slider from facilitator Cristina Rago. \nAbout the facilitator \nCristina Rago (they/them) is a trans non-binary Filipino American multidisciplinary artist. Their artistic practice spans painting\, textiles\, and mixed media to explore identity integration\, healing\, and reparation from a queer perspective. \nTheir textile pieces often utilise domestic materials including discarded clothes\, cheesecloth\, and doilies that are reworked through processes such as dyeing\, destruction and mending. \nThis cyclical process becomes a holistic act of self-reckoning and an integration of past selves and thought patterns with the present. \nCristina works with individuals to foster their creativity through mentorship\, guidance\, and practical workshops. They work out of their studio in Wandsworth\, London. \nAccessibility at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nSessions are played while sitting down at the table with expectations to socialise\, follow the narrative. Active participation and role-play are encouraged\, but not necessary. \nWe will take one 10 min break in the middle of the session (1 hour in). Individual breaks during the game are accommodated via the narrative when needed. \nQuiet snacking during the game is okay. \nAll TW of the sessions will be announced before the start of the game. \nClear character sheets and DnD dice are provided. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling unwell including a headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough or chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable.
