SUMMARY:Liquid Strategies: Ancestral ‘Wave’ Wisdom\, Somatic Dance & Collective Naps
DESCRIPTION:Influenced by African philosophy and Caribbean movement wisdom\, we’ll explore somatic dance practice and rest. This event is for BPOC folks.\n\n\nIt’s UK Black Pride! \nThis workshop\, influenced by African philosophy and Caribbean movement wisdom\, will explore somatic dance practice and rest using layered art-making within a ritual container\, to generate bodily knowledge and stimulate collective healing. \nWe will begin by grounding and slowing down to align with the natural pace of the body\, before opening into movement through embodying undulating wave patterns (Katherine Dunham\, Emilie Conrad of Continuum) to awaken us to the fluidity and vitality within. \nInspired by the teachings of Malidoma Somé and Sobunfu Somé\, we will explore queerness through the lens of spiritual purpose\, and rehearse the joy and intimacy of co-created ritual to support our dreaming. \nThe session will end with a guided period of rest or ‘collective napping’. This space is for LGBTQ+ BPOC folks. \nAbout the facilitator \nAngela (she/her) is an artist and somatic dance/movement educator accredited by the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA.org). \nBased in Nottingham UK\, they work with individuals and groups to support a holistic approach to wellbeing and mental health through dance\, meditation\, breathwork and therapeutic arts practice. \nAngela’s work is informed by decolonial approaches\, indigenous spiritual practice and African philosophy (Ubuntu). \nShe has a Masters degree in Dance & Somatic Wellbeing (University of Central Lancashire\, 2021)\, and has since been working regularly with Micro Rainbow; a charity that supports LGBTQ+ asylum seekers with housing\, asylum application and wellbeing\, through their bi-monthly body and movement programme and creative project intensives. \nIn 2024\, Angela won a £5000 grant from New Art Exchange to program a series of somatic dance workshops for women as part of the Art Your Way award. \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough or chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. SUMMARY:Vocal Freedom: Collective Voice Jam!
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to embody sound? To be heard not just as one\, but within a collective? \nJoin My Blood is My Voice this summer\, in a three-part\, trans-led vocal healing space; exploring the alchemy of fortifying the voice through sounding with sonic embodiment\, improvising\, sharing and learning songs\, and vocal jamming. \nWe invite you to explore your voice as a tool of expression\, release\, and connection. Sounding is a method of exploring what the body needs to release tension and expressing this authentically through the voice. It doesn’t always mean musical sounds; we are focused on finding frequencies and vibrations which feel instinctive to make when we listen deeply. \nWe will also learn some songs together and explore different tonalities of our voice – to safely explore the range we want to inhabit vocally outside of gender binaries. \nThis work is not about perfection\, performance\, or pitch. It’s about sounding from the body\, from instinct\, from the parts of us that need to speak\, especially when words fail. \nTogether\, we will: \n\nEngage in meditative work and deep listening\nExplore sounding and vocal improvisation\nLearn and share songs in communion\nUtilise the voice as a tool to release tension and discover our expressions\nMove gently to support vocal fluidity and embodiment\nReimagine the voice beyond binaries – and beyond fear\nExplore the potentialities within\n\nWho is it for? \nThese sessions are for anyone curious about their voice – no singing experience needed. This space is trans-led\, queer-centred\, and trauma-informed. All bodies and experiences are welcome. You can participate actively or just listen. Presence alone is powerful. \nCome as you are. Let your voice find you. Let us hold that voice together. \nEvery part of the experience is an invitation – never a demand. Our only ask\, is that attendees are mindful of who this space was created by and for – as we seek to cultivate the shared tenderness needed to be seen and held in vulnerability \nThis workshop will be held by tobi\, yuki and petals. \nAccessibility \nOur full accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling unwell including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable.
