SUMMARY:Music Improvisation Circle
DESCRIPTION:An open invitation for us to form a community music improvisation circle\, with a focus on communication and togetherness.\n\n\nThis workshop is an open invitation for us to form a community music improvisation circle. The circle will be a non-hierarchical\, experimental space for community members to come together and re-imagine through improvisation\, with a focus on communication and togetherness. You’re invited to come with musical ideas and creative prompts in any medium\, that we’ll use as inspiration points to work from. \nWe start from the belief that everyone is a musician\, and that improvisation is a mode of interaction that we are constantly rehearsing in life. \nSo while we actively welcome musicians\, and encourage you to bring instruments and your voice\, you can also come for example as an artist who wants to explore sound from a visual starting point\, or as someone who’s read a poem that really resonated and wants to bring it to life through musical improvisation using percussion on everyday objects. \nYour ideas are welcome to shape and create the space together. \nThe group will run for 90 minutes\, with a 15-minute break in the middle\, and anyone who needs to take breaks throughout can do so as they wish. \nThose who sign up will receive another email closer to the time with more details\, and you are actively encouraged to get in touch at hello@londonlgbtqcentre.org if you have any other questions we can pass onto Fatima\, the Circle’s facilitator. \nTicket sales from this event will be donated by the facilitator towards Nation Station\, an NGO in the heart of Beirut in Lebanon. They’re currently doing everything they can to provide meals and other amenities to the estimated 1\,000\,000 recently displaced Lebanese people. \nAbout the facilitator: \nFatima (all pronouns) is an improviser and community musician based in London. \nTheir musical influences include baroque music\, Arabic music\, and free improvisation\, and in 2022\, they released their first album\, ‘bulbul’\, which tells stories about birds\, voices\, home\, and the spaces in between. \nThey’ve performed as a soloist and ensemble musician all over the UK and Europe\, and as a community musician\, they work regularly in care homes\, hospitals\, SEND schools\, theatres\, and community centres. \nThey believe improvisation has the potential to allow us to imagine otherwise through sound\, and are excited to continue to explore this in community. \nAccessibility: \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid and mpox safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre: \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 and/or mpox symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough\, chills and unusual spots\, scabs or ulcers. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. SUMMARY:TRANS-forming AI for Us by Us
DESCRIPTION:A workshop for the Trans\, Non-Binary and Gender-Fluid community on Artificial Intelligence.\n\n\nWe are Teddi and Rayanne\, MA students in UX\, and we’re excited to host a workshop for the trans\, non-binary and gender-fluid community on Artificial Intelligence—no prior knowledge needed! \nThis event offers a chance to explore AI’s impact and collaboratively reimagine a softer\, more inclusive version using physical materials. We’ll provide everything and guide you through the Creative Toolkit Design method. There will be time to share ideas\, connect with others\, and enjoy refreshments in a welcoming space. Whether you’re attending to just connect with others\, we’d love that! \nIn this workshop\, we’ll use the “free flow writing” technique to create a safe space for sharing and discussing trans+ and queer everyday experiences\, uplifting one another beyond the “big moments” that cis-normative society often focuses on\, such as coming out\, surgery\, or assessments. \nWe’ll also explore how AI and technology are shaping our daily lives as trans+ and queer individuals\, showcasing examples of AI designed with and for the trans+ community. \nThrough the “creative toolkit” design method\, we’ll brainstorm and reflect\, individually or as a group\, on how we can reimagine AI and technology to better serve our lived experiences. Teddi and I will also share our own design ideas to ensure the project remains true and authentic to the trans+ and queer community. \nAbout the facilitators: \nThe event will be hosted by Teddi (she/her) and Rayanne (she/her)\, both Post-Grad Students in User Experience Design at the UAL. \nTeddi Wang\, is a transw oman from Taiwan\, who specialises in Branding and User Experience Design\, through her work she wants to give back\, uplift and connect with her community. \nRayanne\, is a cisgender woman from the UK\, who delivers digital projects for government departments and GOV.UK. She is interested in how to design technology to spark joy for a range of people. SUMMARY:Winter Wellbeing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:8-week programme designed to support people to develop new skills and strengthen existing strategies to maintain wellbeing over winter.\n\n\nWe know that the winter months can have an impact on people’s wellbeing for multiple reasons\, and that it can be a tricky time for many people. Given that this can be an isolating experience\, we feel that it may be useful to meet as a group to share and develop skills and strategies to better support ourselves and each other through this time. \nAshley and Navya will facilitate an 8-week workshop grounded in ideas and techniques from Compassion Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy practices. These sessions will focus primarily on developing awareness and understanding of emotional experiences\, as well as participating in experiential exercises to develop soothing skills. \nIt is essential that participants commit to the 8-week programme to get the most out of the workshops\, as there will be a gradual development of ideas and skills over time. \nConsistent attendance is also important for building group safeness and relational trust. This is not intended to be a therapy group: rather than in-depth exploration of personal experiences\, these sessions will focus on skills development and coping strategies. \nIt is understandable that speaking about wellbeing may prompt participants to consider further support to address any difficulties. In such instances\, Ashley and Navya are able to signpost to relevant services. \nAbout the facilitators \nDr Ashley Peart (he/him) is a Black queer man and Clinical Psychologist with 10 years of experience in the NHS\, education and voluntary sectors. He is passionate about increasing access to mental health services and the clinical psychology profession\, and supporting young people and adult’s mental health through a holistic\, creative\, and strengths-based approach. \nDr Navya Anand (she/her) is queer Indian cisgendered woman and Clinical Psychologist\, working in Children’s Social Care\, Academic\, and Private Practice settings. \n She hopes to incorporate compassion-based practices across different levels of service provision\, and to embody values of social justice in her work. \nAccessibility \nWe hope to make this group accessible to a wider range of people in the community\, and as such will be providing the workshops online in the evenings on Mondays. Closed captions will be available\, and we welcome conversations about how to ensure the space is accessible to all participants. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including a headache\, fever\, sore throat and consistent cough. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:The Self-Care Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Created to give you space\, and support\, to explore what wellbeing and empowering self-care look like for you.\n\n\nThe Self-Care Sanctuary is a relaxed and joyful two-part workshop. \nBook a ticket for part one and part two (two dates) to join. \nThe Self-Care Sanctuary was created to give you space\, and support\, to explore what wellbeing and empowering self-care look like for you. We will draw on neuroscience and a range of wellbeing practices including meditation\, dance\, journalling\, nature work\, breathing\, drawing\, gentle movement\, and community. \nThese workshops are an LGBTQ+ space where stories\, wisdom\, and kindness are celebrated. As well as the opportunity to make connections and learn from each from each other. \nPart one is happening throughout October and November 2024 (so you can pick a date that works for you) and part two is happening throughout January 2025. \nAbout the facilitator: \nSal (they/them) has been working in People Development for over 10 years with a focus on wellbeing\, inclusion\, and authenticity. Sal uses positive psychology and a facilitative approach to create spaces for people to explore what wellbeing and empowered self-care feels like for them. \nSal holds a MSc in People Development from Birkbeck\, University of London. They combine their decade of practical experience with research and working internationally to ensure the advice they give is robust and anchored in best practice. With a focus on curiosity and kindness Sal leads workshops in a supportive and joyful way. Working with organisations including Mind\, JustEat\, TATE\, and The University of Kent. \nAccessibility: \nZoom event where closed captions can be enabled and some chat participation(note that there will be one facilitator). \nNo breakout rooms available due to facilitator numbers. \nPlease contact hello@londonlgbtqcentre.org if you have further accessibility requirements. \nDonate to the Centre: \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.
