Find out more about us here: Instagram | TwXtter | Facebook | Linktree | TikTok \nIf you have any questions\, concerns\, or access needs you’d like us to know about\, please email Beth & Josie at: hello@queerdiary.org.uk (we often miss messages sent through Outsavvy). \nQueer Diary Zine-making sessions at the LGBTQ+ Community Centre are supported by funding from Southwark Council. \n*Non-treasured memories also welcome! Teenage troubles\, angst & cringe are all part of life.  Please look after yourself & consider others if choosing to explore or share anything difficult or sensitive.  \nLocation and access: \n\nThe LGBTQ+ Community Centre is in Central London\, near the Tate Modern. The nearest stations are Blackfriars\, Waterloo\, London Bridge\, and Southwark tube.\nLGBTQ+ Community Centre has a quiet room with weighted blankets and sensory toys.\nLGBTQ+ Community Centre cafe serves non-alcoholic drinks only\, with Pay What You Can options available.\nThere is blue badge parking a few metres from the entrance.\nThe venue is step-free\, and entirely on the ground floor with a wide entrance and a lowered counter in the cafe. However\, the toilet is not wheelchair accessible. The Centre has an agreement with several nearby venues (less than 2 min away) that guests can use accessible toilets at Blackfriars Station\, Starbucks\, and the Founders Arms\, and staff can provide an escorting service for anyone using these.\nDogs are welcome.\nThe LGBTQ+ Community Centre is a shared community space. During our session there may be other visitors using the centre\, or other activities going on – you’ll find us by the Queer Diary signs & table of craft materials.\n\nFull information about access at the LGBTQ+ Community Centre is on their website\, and we recommend contacting the Centre directly if you have any specific questions about physical access to the building. \nCovid safety: \nEvent organisers are fully vaccinated and use lateral flow testing regularly. \nWe also welcome the wearing of masks. \nDo not attend this event if you have either Covid symptoms or a positive test result. \nInclusivity and community safety: \nPlease note this event is themed around memories of teenage years gone by\, and is aimed at adult audiences. \nThis is an-LGBTQIA+ centred space. As hosts of this workshop\, we will not assume your gender or sexuality\, or apply gendered pronouns or honourifics (until we learn which ones you use). To make sure everyone feels welcome in this space\, we ask attendees to do the same. \nToilet signage will be gender-neutral. \nDiscriminatory language or behaviour will not be tolerated (including – but not limited to – transphobia\, biphobia\, homophobia\, sexism\, racism\, xenophobia\, classism\, ableism\, fatphobia). \nIf anyone makes you feel uncomfortable in the space\, please tell the event organisers. \nWe may take a few photos at this event\, to publicise future workshops like this – if you’d prefer not to be in photos\, or want to be anonymised in any pictures we publish on our social media\, etc\, please let us know\, we want to make sure we respect your privacy.

SUMMARY:Copla: A Sharing of LGBTQ+ Migrant Stories and Song
DESCRIPTION:Explore the power of identity through creativity\, by looking at this project and performances created by and for LGBTQ+ migrants\n\n\nIn this session\, we will explore the power of identity through creativity\, by looking at this project and performances created by and for LGBTQ+ migrants\, and discuss social\, cultural\, and geographical displacement\, celebrating the resilience of those who don’t “fit in” through music and humour. \nThe creators of Copla: a Spanish Cabaret and participants from The Love Tank\, an LGBTQ+ migrant organisation\, who developed a performance in response to Copla\, will join us. We will share footage from these events and discuss the next steps for the project. \nCopla is a genre of Spanish music that was repressed during Franco’s dictatorship but later embraced by drag artists and queer communities as a form of resistance. Copla: a Spanish Cabaret brings these powerful songs to life in English\, with a fresh take for today’s audiences: www.coplacabaret.com \nAbout the facilitator \nAlejandro Postigo (he/him) is a theatre maker and playwright inspired by the merging of music and identity in the performing arts. \nDuring the last ten years\, he’s developed The Copla Musical\, a theatre project involving the adaptation of Spanish folkloric songs with queer\, cultural and political undertones. \nThe Copla Musical'(2014-2023)\, has been performed in Europe and America\, most recently at the Kings Head in July 2023. \nRecent research has led him to address the cultural and linguistic barriers found in Anglophone theatre contexts\, and to champion the artistic contributions of audible minorities in my show Miss Brexit'(2022). \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.
