SUMMARY:Bi+ Joy Speed Friending — for Bisexual Health Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:A validating\, empowering space for bi+ people to share experiences and meet your fabulous future bi besties via speed friending!\n\n\nHappy Bisexual Health Awareness Month! \nThis March\, join Florence from Bi Bitch in this validating\, empowering space for bi+ people to come together\, reflect and share experiences — and meet your fabulous future bi besties via speed friending. Because unlocking the power of community is what can really help us say goodbye to biphobia and reclaim our bisexual joy… \nWho? \nAnyone who identifies as bi+ (inclusive of trans and non-binary people) and wants to grow their bi-specific community. \nWhy? \nThere is an invisible health crisis impacting bi+ people: we often report not feeling valid or welcome in other queer spaces and beyond — and despite making up around half of the LGBTQ+ community\, there is a huge lack of bi-specific spaces and support. \nThe impact of this is significant: we’ve been found to have some of the highest rates of anxiety\, chronic illness\, addiction and more. So\, it can make a huge difference to meet other bi+ pals who *just get it*. This is your invitation to grow your community and celebrate yourself in a unique\, bi-specific space. \nWhat to expect: \n• Icebreakers (with prizes!) \n• Speed friending in groups — plus conversational prompts\, music & vibes \n• Snacks \nBring on the bi+ joy! \n🩷💜💙 \nPhotos in the image slider from facilitator Florence of previous Bi+ Speed Friending events at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. \nAbout the facilitator \nFlorence Scordoulis (she/her) is the founder of Bi Bitch: bi-specific events in London and online\, which empower the bi+ community\, foster connection\, and help you say goodbye to biphobia\, from speed-friending to singles nights and more. \nShe is also a writer specialising in LGBTQ+ and bisexual experiences. You can follow her work here\, sign up for the Bi Bitch newsletter and join the community to stay up to date with upcoming events. \nAccessibility at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. SUMMARY:Queer Cacao Circle
DESCRIPTION:A Cacao Circle offers people in the community an opportunity to come together\, to make new connections and foster a sense of belonging.\n\n\nA Queer Cacao Circle offers people in the community an opportunity to come together\, to make new connections and foster a sense of belonging. It’s a moment to pause and be still\, allowing us to reflect and access the inner wisdom which drinking Cacao in ritual can provide. \nThe theme of this Circle will be around queer creativity and the new moon. \nThe Circle starts once everyone is seated comfortably in a circle on the ground. \nAfter a brief introduction to the facilitator and a description of the sequence of events\, we begin with a guided meditation to help us arrive in the space. \nEverybody is then invited to share their name and briefly tell us what brought them to the Circle today. \nAfter the sharing\, the facilitator\, Chui-Yee\, will talk a little bit about Cacao\, its ancestry and its properties\, the lunar cycles\, and the Circle’s theme\, before inviting everyone to spend some time reflecting\, maybe writing down some thoughts\, while Chui-Yee prepares the Cacao. \nOnce the Cacao is ready\, it is served in individual cups and passed to everyone in the circle. We hold the Cacao for a moment in mindfulness\, before starting to take small sips. Chui-Yee will invite people to continue reflecting and journalling any insights or new thoughts which might come up for them. \nAfter this\, everyone is invited to share with the group what their experience of Cacao was like\, but this is not obligatory – only if folks feel comfortable doing so. \nAt the end of the final sharing we close the ritual by inviting everyone to draw an oracle card from the centre of the circle. \nAbout the facilitator \nChui-Yee (she/her) is a 200hr qualified yoga teacher\, as well as a Queer Sex Therapist and Relationship Counsellor. She uses the yogic practices of breathwork\, mindfulness and gentle movement with the aim of healing the mind-body connection through somatic awareness. \nThe first time she experienced the restorative power of drinking ceremonial Cacao was during the pandemic\, when the world felt very unsafe for a queer person of Chinese heritage. She attended her first Cacao ceremony and discovered that drinking Cacao gave her a profound sense of inner wellbeing\, especially during a very challenging time. \nFurther research revealed that drinking ceremonial Cacao not only offers emotional and spiritual medicine\, but it also provides a variety of health benefits\, due to the Cacao plant being rich in bioactive compounds. \nChui-Yee now facilitates Cacao Circles in the hope of sharing the therapeutic properties of ceremonial Cacao with the wider community. \nAccessibility at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including a headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough or chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. If you have any access needs\, health conditions or injuries\, please let us know on the registration form and/or let the facilitators know before the workshop starts. \nBender Defenders ethos \nBender Defenders take a holistic view of self-defence\, remembering that keeping people safe means more than avoiding danger in the moment – it means creating community systems to heal from the harm hate crime causes in the long term. \nWe approach self-defence from a compassionate\, trauma-informed and community-led perspective. We teach participants simple\, effective strategies for using physical force to keep themselves safe. \nWe believe that queer and trans people already have a wide range of self-defence skills to draw upon\, and we encourage participants to collaborate with trainers in sharing these skills\, enabling them to feel more confident and empowered when they use them. \nAbout Queer Minds \nQueer Minds is a peer support group for LGBTQIA+ people (aged 18+) who live\, work or play in Lambeth and Southwark. This group is by us\, for us and is for those who are looking to connect with others and get support for their mental health. We currently run two monthly peer support groups\, a trans drop-in group\, and various workshops and activities with partner organisations. You can find more information about the group on the Queer Minds website: selmind.org.uk/queermindsls or Instagram @queermindslondon. \nAccessibility at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including a headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable.
