SUMMARY:Sickle Cell Information Drop-in
DESCRIPTION:A drop-in stall to support community awareness of sickle cell\, which predominantly impacts Global Majority people. \nHosted by the South East London Sickle Cell Improvement Programme\, this is an event to support acceptance\, inclusion and intersectional community for LGBTQ+ people. \nHealthcare settings can be cis-heteronormative in their approach to wellbeing and sometimes queer spaces aren’t always as supportive as they could be for racialised and disabled/chronically ill people. This is a space for you to be able to ask questions and learn more about sickle cell in a supportive drop-in. \nThere will be material suitable for different ages\, including leaflets\, videos and more. \nFind out more about the programme here and drop-in for a chat! \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid-19 safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough\, and chills. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

She’s a self-taught baker and most of this has come through research\, travel\, seeing new cultures and foods\, all of which have inspired her to push myself further. \nIt has been a journey of trial and error\, as well as learning about herself and her culture and using those experiences to make my food taste better. \nYamina wants to inspire people to cook more and waste less. SUMMARY:Fat Liberation London Book Club
DESCRIPTION:A Book Club that celebrates Fat Liberation politics\, ideas and activism in a safer space. \nWe’re back for Book Club! This will be a monthly occurrence with regular breaks so there’s plenty of time to read the source material before coming along to an accessible\, safe discussion with fellow fats and fat allies. If you’re new to fat liberation\, curious about what it is or looking to see how it differs from body positivity\, this is the place for you. \nWe’ll be exploring a mix of non-fiction\, fiction\, poetry\, comic books and everything in between\, with supplementary material from fat academics\, essayists\, TikTokkers\, podcasters and more. \nFor this month’s book club we’re looking at Get a Life\, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. \nGrab your copy here. \nThe start of the year is a time with a huge increase in violent diet talk\, ‘new year\, new you’ sentiment and rampant anti-fat discrimination\, so we wanted to soothe the ache a little as we ramp up to Valentine’s Day with something fun\, celebratory and that exists as continued proof that fat people are beautiful and lovable just as we are! This is a romance we can’t wait to discuss with you! \nFrom the online copy: \n‘Talia Hibbert delivers a witty\, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being ‘boring’ and recruits her mysterious\, sexy neighbour to help her get a life – perfect for fans of Sally Thorne\, Jasmine Guillory and Helen Hoang! \nChloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal\, a plan and a list. After almost – but not quite – dying\, she’s come up with a list of directives to help her ‘Get a Life’: \n\nEnjoy a drunken night out\nRide a motorbike\nGo camping\nHave meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex\nTravel the world with nothing but hand luggag\nAnd . . . do something bad\n\nBut it’s not easy being bad\, even when you’ve written out step-by-step guidelines. What Chloe needs is a teacher\, and she knows just the man for the job: Redford ‘Red’ Morgan. \nWith tattoos and a motorbike\, Red is the perfect helper in her mission to rebel\, but as they spend more time together\, Chloe realises there’s much more to him than his tough exterior implies. Soon she’s left wanting more from him than she ever expected . . . maybe there’s more to life than her list ever imagined?’ \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 and/or mpox symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable.
