SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Migrant Stories and Songs (two-part workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a series of free workshops inspired by The Copla Cabaret\, a performance created by and for LGBTQ+ migrants.\n\n\n\nPlease note you’ll need to book a ticket to The Copla Cabaret performance on Thursday 7 November to attend these workshops. \nAre you an LGBTQ+ migrant wanting to share your story and explore your identity through creativity? \nJoin us for a series of free\, supportive workshops through songs\, acting\, and dancing\, inspired by The Copla Cabaret\, a performance created by and for LGBTQ+ migrants. \nThis show delves into social\, cultural\, and geographical displacement\, celebrating the resilience of those who don’t ‘fit in’ through music and humour. \nCopla is a genre of Spanish music that was repressed during Franco’s dictatorship but later embraced by drag artists and queer communities as a form of resistance. \nThe Copla Cabaret brings these powerful songs to life in English\, with a fresh take for today’s audiences. \nWorkshop dates: \n \n\nThursday 7 November at 8-10pm: Watch The Copla Cabaret together at The Cockpit Theatre (discount code for £10 tickets for workshop attendees – QUEERCOPLA)\n\n \n\nSunday 10 November at 4-6.30pm: Show debrief and sharing our migrant stories at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre\n\n \n\nSaturday 23 November\, at 6-8pm: Developing our own stories through music and drama at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre\n\nAbout the facilitator \nAlejandro Postigo (he/him) is a theatre maker and playwright inspired by the merging of music and identity in the performing arts. \nDuring the last ten years\, he’s developed The Copla Musical\, a theatre project involving the adaptation of Spanish folkloric songs with queer\, cultural and political undertones. \nThe Copla Musical'(2014-2023)\, has been performed in Europe and America\, most recently at the Kings Head in July 2023. \nRecent research has led him to address the cultural and linguistic barriers found in Anglophone theatre contexts\, and to champion the artistic contributions of audible minorities in my show Miss Brexit'(2022). \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nPlease ensure you inform us prior to the session of any specific requests\, preferences or needs . We want to ensure our sessions are as accessible and engaging as possible. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:DramaQueers
DESCRIPTION:A theatre group for marginalised people.\n\n\nWe meet every second Sunday of the month to explore different methods of performance. We usually start with some warm up games before then either devising some short scenes\, reading some scripts\, play with moving our bodies or whatever other creative activities take our fancy! \nWe are an informal group aimed at having fun and creating community and space for everyone to feel safe and be free to explore their selves through drama and performance. \nThe workshops are run by Beckah from the London Intersectional Arts Collective. They are trans/genderqueer and disabled and their aim is to make these workshops accessible for all. \nWe welcome everybody regardless of orientation\, gender\, age\, race\, ethnicity – all we require is an open mind\, a desire to try\, respect for pronouns and a wish to perform! Doesn’t matter if you are a newbie or pro\, just wear some comfy clothes and come along. \nSessions are free but we ask that you leave a donation in the bucket at the centre if that is possible. \nIf a donation is prohibitive\, please do not let that put you off – art needs to be accessible for all of us. \nAbout the organiser: \nBeckah (they/them) is a theatre maker/facilitator and genderqueer person. SUMMARY:Winter Wellbeing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:8-week programme designed to support people to develop new skills and strengthen existing strategies to maintain wellbeing over winter.\n\n\nWe know that the winter months can have an impact on people’s wellbeing for multiple reasons\, and that it can be a tricky time for many people. Given that this can be an isolating experience\, we feel that it may be useful to meet as a group to share and develop skills and strategies to better support ourselves and each other through this time. \nAshley and Navya will facilitate an 8-week workshop grounded in ideas and techniques from Compassion Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy practices. These sessions will focus primarily on developing awareness and understanding of emotional experiences\, as well as participating in experiential exercises to develop soothing skills. \nIt is essential that participants commit to the 8-week programme to get the most out of the workshops\, as there will be a gradual development of ideas and skills over time. \nConsistent attendance is also important for building group safeness and relational trust. This is not intended to be a therapy group: rather than in-depth exploration of personal experiences\, these sessions will focus on skills development and coping strategies. \nIt is understandable that speaking about wellbeing may prompt participants to consider further support to address any difficulties. In such instances\, Ashley and Navya are able to signpost to relevant services. \nAbout the facilitators \nDr Ashley Peart (he/him) is a Black queer man and Clinical Psychologist with 10 years of experience in the NHS\, education and voluntary sectors. He is passionate about increasing access to mental health services and the clinical psychology profession\, and supporting young people and adult’s mental health through a holistic\, creative\, and strengths-based approach. \nDr Navya Anand (she/her) is queer Indian cisgendered woman and Clinical Psychologist\, working in Children’s Social Care\, Academic\, and Private Practice settings. \n She hopes to incorporate compassion-based practices across different levels of service provision\, and to embody values of social justice in her work. \nAccessibility \nWe hope to make this group accessible to a wider range of people in the community\, and as such will be providing the workshops online in the evenings on Mondays. Closed captions will be available\, and we welcome conversations about how to ensure the space is accessible to all participants. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including a headache\, fever\, sore throat and consistent cough.
