Governance

Our Governance Team

The Centre’s Governance team is formed of 12 LGBTQ+ members from diverse backgrounds to establish the operating framework and necessary legislative titles and structures to ensure the LGBTQIA+ Community Centre can grow and thrive. Areas of focus for the team include:

  • Co-ordinating working groups, enduring group direction is followed
  • Defining and writing policies, like our Safe Space Policy
  • Chairing grievances
  • Managing (but not allocating) budget
  • Facilitating a non-hierarchical structure.

The team’s main aims include ensuring all volunteers are working towards a common goal, facilitating a decision-making process (including creating the framework so everyone can participate in decision making) and supporting other working groups in achieving their aims.

The Governance team do not decide the strategic actions of the group – this is a job for our Steering Committee and the diverse communities we want to serve. However, the Governance team co-ordinates those decisions and ensure they are subjected to a fair process and are directed through a refined structure.

Steering Committee

We are currently in the process of creating a Steering Committee to lead on strategy and decision-making. We know that representation is absolutely vital to ensure that we best meet the needs of every intersection of our diverse community.  We will therefore ensure that there is at least one representative from a cross-section of groups that exist within the community on the Committee, including:

  • Across the spectrum of LGBTQ+
  • Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME)
  • Trans and non-binary
  • Intersex
  • Women
  • Older LGBTQ+ people
  • LGBTQ+ people of faith
  • LGBTQ+ disabled people

    Safe Space Policy

The safety of the users of the Centre is of utmost importance to us. That’s why our Governance Team has created a Safe Space policy.
