Update: The Centre is reopening on Saturday 4 October. We are closed for walk-ins this weekend. Please only visit if you’ve booked a ticket for an event on our Eventbrite page.
With the Centre temporarily closed to rebuild the toilet facilities, we’ve pulled together a list of answers to questions you may have while we’re away.
When will the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre be closed?
The Centre is closed from Monday 4 August until September. We anticipate the building works to take a month to complete.
When are you reopening?
We’re hoping to reopen in early September. This may change if extra time is needed to rebuild the toilet.
As soon as we know the official reopening date, we’ll announce it on our website, newsletter and social media.
Update: We are reopening to the public on Sunday 28 September with a Fill-a-Bag Clothes Sale. Two events are taking place at the Centre before this – Queer Dungeons and Dragons and DIY Strap Making Workshop. The Centre will not be open to the public for these events and tickets will be required to attend.
Why are you closing?
We’ve spent the last several years trying to secure funding to rebuild our toilet facilities.
Thanks to the funds we received from Southwark Council, B&Q, Screwfix and donations from our recent Big Give campaign, we’re able to make this happen!
A big thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this work.
Will any events happen while you’re closed?
A couple of regular events will take place at other locations in August and September.
- NA – every Wednesday, 7-8pm at The Outside Project
- 50+ Friday Social – every Friday, 1-3pm at Old Compton St
- 40+ and Up LGBTQ+ Women Social – at BFI Cafe
If you have any questions and are a regular of any of these groups, please reach out to the facilitators directly.
Will you be posting on social media while you’re closed?
During our closure period, our comms team (Cherokee and Vivika) will be working on our new website.
This is a big project, and with a part-time team, it means we unfortunately have limited capacity to manage social media.
There may be urgent posts or announcements, for example when we reopen, that we’ll share in this time. Otherwise, we’ll be off Instagram and Facebook.
Will Centre staff still be working?
The team will be working from Monday to Friday in August. Due to the delays from the toilet works in August, this has been extended into September.
Aside from the Centre’s Manager, the team works part-time so they’ll be spread out across the working week.
We’re using this period to work on big picture projects, like our new website and strategy work.
Can I book tickets for events later in the year?
Yes! Check out our calendar in September to see what’s on.
