DESCRIPTION:A breathwork session for queer women and non-binary people to explore themselves through breath and learn tools to help stressful situations\n\n\nOur Queer Women and Non-Binary Day is back for another year! The first event of the day is a breathwork session\, led by Iva. \nWe start off by shaking off our bodies to lose tension. Once we’ve done a quick shake we settle down in a sacred circle\, checking the way we breathe without controlling our breath. SUMMARY:Fortifying Vocal Freedom: Sounding and Collective Voice
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to embody sound? To be heard not just as one\, but within a collective? \nJoin My Blood is My Voice this summer\, in a three-part\, trans-led vocal healing space; exploring the alchemy of fortifying the voice through sounding with sonic embodiment\, improvising\, sharing and learning songs\, and vocal jamming.   \nWe invite you to explore your voice as a tool of expression\, release\, and connection. Sounding is a method of exploring what the body needs to release tension and expressing this authentically through the voice. It doesn’t always mean musical sounds; we are focused on finding frequencies and vibrations which feel instinctive to make when we listen deeply. \nWe will also learn some songs together and explore different tonalities of our voice – to safely explore the range we want to inhabit vocally outside of gender binaries. \nThis work is not about perfection\, performance\, or pitch. It’s about sounding from the body\, from instinct\, from the parts of us that need to speak\, especially when words fail. \n Together\, we will: \n\nEngage in meditative work and deep listening\nExplore sounding and vocal improvisation\nLearn and share songs in communion\nUtilise the voice as a tool to release tension and discover our expressions\nMove gently to support vocal fluidity and embodiment\nReimagine the voice beyond binaries –  and beyond fear\nExplore the potentialities within fortifying the voice as a way to connect to ourselves and the collective\n\nWho is it for? \nThese sessions are for anyone curious about their voice – no singing experience needed. \nThis space is trans-led\, queer-centred\, and trauma-informed. All bodies and experiences are welcome. You can participate actively or just listen. Presence alone is powerful. Come as you are. Let your voice find you. DESCRIPTION:A Drag King/Thing Life Drawing Workshop for artists to experience drag in a new way and drag artists to gain a new skill in life modelling.\n\n\nJoin us for an exciting life drawing workshop dedicated to providing a platform for Drag Kings/Things to model and offering artists a unique experience in capturing the essence of drag through art. \nOur inclusive sessions cater to all skill levels\, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned artist like the next David Hockney! Each pose is timed\, and we may suggest different drawing techniques to inspire and warm up your artistic flow. \nWhat You’ll Need: \n\nDrawing Surface: Get creative—paper\, an iPad\, or cardboard boxes!\nDrawing Materials: Anything goes—pencils\, charcoal\, pastels\, or paints. It’s a perfect opportunity to experiment and try something new!\n\nPose breakdown will be 4 x 5 minutes\, 2 x 10 minutes\, 3 x 15 minutes\, and 1 x 20 minutes (as time allows). \nCome along\, settle in and drawing starts just after 5.30pm. \nPlease bring your own materials (Although we generally have a few pads and pencils on hand in case!). All skill levels\, genders and orientations are welcome. \nImportant: Recording of the session is not permitted. \nAs with all our sessions\, Nudity is not part of this workshop. It can be tricky to fit in a proper lunch break and we are hoping this will help. \nIf you don’t want to join\, that’s okay! It’ll just be an hour with slightly more chatting and background noise\, no pressure at all. SUMMARY:Life Drawing the Queer Body
DESCRIPTION:Home Studio invites members of the queer and trans Global Majority community to learn life drawing with nude models taught by Maya Vivas. \nThis event is created for people who are part of both communities: Black or Global Majority and queer or trans. Thank you for respecting this intentional space. \nWithin a small intimate group\, artists will be able to learn new techniques of drawing or practice what they already know with the intention of fostering relationships with fellow artists over the course of five classes throughout the year. \nMaya Vivas is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums such as ceramic\, performance\, painting\, social practice and installation. Maya has exhibited work\, spoken on panels and hosted workshops at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art\, The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts\, Louisiana State University and Yale. Vivas is also co-founder of Ori Gallery. Whose mission is to redefine “the white cube” through amplifying the voices of Queer and Trans Artists of color\, community organizing and mobilization through the arts. \nIn the beginning we will have an introduction of each other and the Home Studio project. We will each share what drew us to gather around life drawing and then Maya will spend 10-15 mins explaining their technique. The class will then begin to draw in 20 minute intervals of live posing with 5 minute breaks in between. With facilitated discussions and different topics and activities each month.  \nAttend this first get-together and help shape what we do in the coming months. \nAbout the facilitators \nBrixton Umbrella Circle is an independent\, peer led\, self-help group for older (50+) LGBTQ’s.
