SUMMARY:Rewrite\, Reimagine: A Poetry Editing Session
DESCRIPTION:A poetry editing session for LGBTQ+ writers\, led by writer\, poet and performer Bella Cox.\n\n\nRewrite\, Reimagine: A Poetry Editing Session is a one-off\, in-person workshop for LGBTQ+ writers hosted at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre in London. \nLed by poet and educator Bella Cox\, following the success of her online 6-week course Unmuted\, this in-person creative session focuses on editing and rewriting poetry in a supportive\, affirming space. \n Bring a poem or two you’d like to rework\, or just an idea you’d like to write about and edit in the session. Expect inspiring freewriting exercises\, hands-on editing techniques\, and a chance to breathe new life into old work. \nWhether you’re an emerging queer poet or simply someone passionate about writing and self-expression\, come join us to celebrate creativity\, community\, and craft. \nThis session is open to all LGBTQ+ people who write and want to explore their editing abilities. \nAbout the facilitator \nAn internationally acclaimed artist\, Bella Cox (she/her) is a British-Spanish writer\, poet\, and performer whose poetry centres around relationships and how personal identity influences politics and ways of loving one another. \nWhile her proudly queer\, feminist\, relationship-fuelled work navigates her own identity\, her multicultural upbringing has influenced work that explores the notions of belonging\, home\, and self-empowerment. Her art reclaims the body as the first home and embraces sensitivities and neurodivergence as tools for self-liberation. \nShe is a three-time Barbican Young Poets alumna\, a twice-nominated Young People’s Laureate for London\, and was a member of multiple London poetry collectives throughout 2018 while being a founding member of two regularly sold out London open mic nights. \nIn her work as a writing workshop facilitator\, Bella strives to create safe to ‘fail’ spaces that prioritise inclusivity and empower young people to creatively express themselves through poetry. \nIn her 6+ years of experience delivering both in person and online workshops to people ages five to 65 she has worked with various institutions including Eastside Education\, Goldsmiths University\, Get Further Education\, Canning Town community centre\, and First Story among many others. \n Find her at BellaCox.com or @bellaCoxPoet on Instagram \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nYou can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Coworking Space
DESCRIPTION:A space for LGBTQ+ freelancers\, students and work-from-homers\n\n\nJoin us for coffee\, a desk and queer business! \nEvery Wednesday the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre opens its space for freelancers\, students and anyone that work remotely. \nAt 1pm we’ll have a social lunch hour so we can have an arranged time to break for lunch and have a chat. It can be tricky to fit in a proper lunch break and we are hoping this will help. \nIf you don’t want to join\, that’s okay! We ask that you respect the model’s privacy by NOT taking any photos or recordings during the session. \nTicket sales contribute to paying our models\, covering hire fees\, and ensuring we can continue providing these fantastic sessions. \nFollow us on Instagram for more updates and to build a vibrant\, creative community together! \nAbout the facilitator \nMatt David (they/them) is a queer artist and founder of Kings for Life (Drawing). \nKings for Life (Drawing) is a workshop allowing artists to experience drag in a few ways and be able to draw new and exciting subjects\, as well as drag kings/things to gain new skills in life modelling and gain work outside of just the nightlife scene. \nThey have facilitated multiple creative workshops\, including Self Portrait workshops for Positive East\, alongside making their own artwork with a focus on portraiture and life drawing. \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here. \nCovid-19 safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre \nTo keep our community safe\, we ask that all visitors do not visit the centre if they are feeling any Covid-19 symptoms including headache\, fever\, sore throat\, consistent cough and chills. \nMasks and hand sanitiser are available free of charge. \nFor current information on Covid please visit the NHS website. \nDonate to the CentreWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.

SUMMARY:Film and Workshop: Country Dancing in the LGBTQ+ Community
DESCRIPTION:A film and workshop about country dancing in the LGBTQ+ community.\n\n\n\nCountry dancing in the queer community is making a big comeback\, but for some of us it has been around for more than 30 years! \nThis workshop will start with a film produced at the last Sundance Stompede in 2023 (its 27th and final year). \nThere will be a short group discussion about the film\, alongside a chat about the country dancing community and why it was so important in 1996 to bring people together in San Francisco. \nThis will be followed by a dance workshop – learning some of the dances that have been around the scene! It may include some partner work for those that are comfortable doing so. \nThe workshop is aimed at those interested in dance and its place in the LGBTQ+ community. \nAbout the facilitator \nPeter Flockhart (he/him) has been teaching line dancing for 32 years and now runs The Cactus Club\, London’s longest-running LGBTQIA line dance club. \nAccessibility \nThe Centre’s accessibility statement is here.
