DESCRIPTION:Screening of the documentary Tchindas for Queer Film Club.\n\n\nJoin us for a screening of Tchindas at LUX! \nAbout the film: Tchindas \nCalm reigns in Sâo Vicente\, a small Cape Verdean island (off the West Coast of Africa) where most of the people have never moved away. In Mindelo we meet Tchinda\, one of their most beloved women\, especially after coming out as a transgender person in the local newspaper in 1998. Since then\, her name has become the way local people call queer Cape Verdeans. Tchinda sells “coxinhas” by day and in the evening is responsible for security at her bar as music and grog\, the famous local rum permeates every corner of the island. In February the island evolves as thousands of people pack into the streets for Carnival. \nNote: The cost of the ticket covers the hiring of the film. \nAbout Queer Film Club \nQueer Film Club hold bi-monthly screenings at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre and other queer venues. \nAfter each screening\, there will be a community chat to share and unpack our thoughts about the film. \nFilmmakers will sometimes join this discussion\, while other events will be attendee-only chats. \nDonate to the Centre \nWe rely on donations to ensure that the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre can keep its doors open for years to come. \nTo donate or become a Friend of the Centre\, visit our website.
