Film and Workshop: Country Dancing in the LGBTQ+ Community

Country dancing in the queer community is making a big comeback, but for some of us it has been around for more than 30 years!
This workshop will start with a film produced at the last Sundance Stompede in 2023 (its 27th and final year).
There will be a short group discussion about the film, alongside a chat about the country dancing community and why it was so important in 1996 to bring people together in San Francisco.
This will be followed by a dance workshop – learning some of the dances that have been around the scene! It may include some partner work for those that are comfortable doing so.
The workshop is aimed at those interested in dance and its place in the LGBTQ+ community.
About the facilitator
Peter Flockhart (he/him) has been teaching line dancing for 32 years and now runs The Cactus Club, London’s longest-running LGBTQIA line dance club.
