In Bloom: Collage Your Trans Self

This is a fun, creative workshop for young trans people o express who they are through the art of collage.

In a relaxed, supportive space, you’ll reflect on your identity and turn that into a personalised collage using magazines, images, craft materials. This workshop is a space to create, connect, and celebrate your identity.

The collages you make will be part of In Bloom, a photographic project that celebrates the diverse experiences of trans young people.

Through photos and stories, In Bloom shines a light on what it means to be trans, fostering empathy and honouring unique identities.

This workshop is suitable for trans young people people aged 18-25.

If you’re attending this workshop and would like to bring a queer ally to support you, you’re welcome to. Please note participation in the event is for young trans people.

Workshop Agenda

1. Arrival & Breaking the Ice (10 mins)

• Welcome participants with a warm introduction.

• Icebreaker activity to help everyone feel comfortable and relaxed.

2. Introduction to In Bloom and the Collage Workshop (10 mins)

• Brief overview of the In Bloom project and how the collages will contribute to it.

• Explain the process and what participants can expect during the workshop.

3. Choosing Your Theme (10 mins)

• Reflect on the question: What do you want to create today?

• Decide on a theme that best represents your identity or story.

4. Dive into Collage-Making (40 mins)

• Provide magazines to each participant.

• Explore the materials and choose pages to cut.

• Begin cutting and shaping your personal work of art.

5. Break Time (15 mins)

• Enjoy tea, coffee, and light refreshments from the Centre.

6. Back to Collage (30 mins)

• Continue working on your collage.

• Start glueing your pieces together to complete your creation.

7. Adding the Finishing Touches (15 mins)

• Give your collage a title and sign it to make it uniquely yours.

8. Sharing & Reflection (15 mins)

• Optional: Share your collage and its meaning with the group.

• Celebrate each other’s creativity in a supportive space.

9. Documenting Your Work (10 mins)

• Scan or photograph the finished collages in high-quality for the In Bloom project.

Covid safety at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre

To keep our community safe, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling unwell including headache, fever, sore throat, consistent cough and chills.

You can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre.
