Introduction to Sighted Guiding with Demonstration
December 14 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreePlease note: this event is for over 18’s only.
Much like learning how to perform first aid, sighted guiding is a useful life skill. It will give you the confidence to know how to act when you meet people who are blind or partially sighted, and the guiding techniques to help them if they need it.
The training will cover most common eye conditions and their impact, emotional and physical challenges people living with sight loss face and a demonstration of sighted guiding techniques.
The training is designed to be interactive and engaging, and will not only raise your awareness on vision impairment, but it will also equip you with tips on how to provide help confidently and safely whenever needed.
We will cover:
- Sight loss in the UK
- Eye conditions
- Potential impacts and challenges
- Access rights
- Practical activity
- Reflection and questions
This is in-person event delivered by Guide Dogs expert staff who is available to answer questions and provide advice.
About the facilitator
Tadeja Zajec (she/her), Sighted Guide Training Officer at Guide Dogs, has been delivering trainings to different audiences for over 20 years. She is passionate about educating the public so that they will be more understanding and able to offer more support to people with sight loss.
There are currently two million people in the UK living with sight loss, with this number predicted to double by 2050.
At Guide Dogs our aim is to increase the number of people in the UK who know how to sighted guide, to help create a more inclusive society for people with vision impairment.
