Liquid Strategies: Ancestral ‘Wave’ Wisdom, Somatic Dance & Collective Naps

It’s UK Black Pride!
This workshop, influenced by African philosophy and Caribbean movement wisdom, will explore somatic dance practice and rest using layered art-making within a ritual container, to generate bodily knowledge and stimulate collective healing.
We will begin by grounding and slowing down to align with the natural pace of the body, before opening into movement through embodying undulating wave patterns (Katherine Dunham, Emilie Conrad of Continuum) to awaken us to the fluidity and vitality within.
Inspired by the teachings of Malidoma Somé and Sobunfu Somé, we will explore queerness through the lens of spiritual purpose, and rehearse the joy and intimacy of co-created ritual to support our dreaming.
The session will end with a guided period of rest or ‘collective napping’. This space is for LGBTQ+ BPOC folks.
