Love, Loss and Identity: Exploring Black Queer Narratives
October 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeJoin us at the London LGBTQ+ Centre for a special Black History Month event for our Queer Black Women and Non-Binary Day.
Author Olumide Popoola will discuss Like Water Like Sea, Popoola’s powerful novel that explores themes of mental health, self-discovery, sexuality, love, and complex family dynamics.
Set in London, Like Water Like Sea follows Nia, as she grapples with grief following her sister’s death ten year prior and balancing the complicated relationships weaving through her life. There is smart and sexy Temi; Melvin, her teenage love; and her new yet intimate friendship with Rahul and Crystal. But looming large over everything is her mother SuSu, whose battle with bipolar disorder continues to cast a profound shadow over Nia.
This engaging presentation will delve into the intersections of Black narratives, queerness, and storytelling, offering a rich dialogue on the importance of representation in literature.
Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate Black voices and narratives in the LGBTQ+ community.
