COLOURBLIND

Is it my skin that upsets you
Brown and smooth
Perhaps you cannot see it because you do not see colour?

Is it my hair that causes you grief
Black and kinky
Perhaps you cannot see it because you do not see colour?

Is it my eyes that anger you
Dark and poised
Perhaps you cannot see them because you do not see colour?

But if I show you my voice
to speak against the structures that bind me,
suddenly,
you see red.
