Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Time commitment: 4 to 6 hours per week (depending on availability)
Location: Remote and at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre
As a small organisation, we hugely benefit from the support of those who volunteer for us.
Over the last three years, we’ve welcomed more than 40,000 people to the Centre and hosted 2,000 events. We’ve seen such an amazing response to the space and how much it’s needed within the community. Volunteers have been central to this – from the folks who got the Centre started to our regular events facilitators.
We’d love to offer more ways to volunteer and support the Centre, but due to capacity we’ve not been able to. There is so much volunteers could do and so much they could gain from their experience volunteering for us.
While we raise funds to recruit a paid Volunteer Coordinator, we are looking for a volunteer who would like to take the lead and support the team.
We have volunteers supporting a range of activities:
- Centre day-to-day care: from making coffees to watering plants
- Helping out with special events like Pride in Southwark stalls
- Creating material such as leaflets to provide specialist information to visitors
- Supporting with website management
- Supporting with ad-hoc research and reporting tasks
We would like to have additional volunteers to help us with:
- Events – supporting the team with the admin side of events, like contacting facilitators to make sure we have all the info behind their events
- Communications – from creating Eventbrite pages to graphics for our comms materials
- Outreach – sharing leaflets about the Centre to organisations in our neighbourhood (Southwark), contacting organisations to introduce our work us and work
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for:
Volunteer recruitment
- Match volunteering requests with opportunities that are relevant to them and to the Centre
Volunteer onboarding
- Create an induction process for volunteers in partnership with our Centre Manager
- Support other team members to work effectively with volunteers and create a positive volunteering experience
Volunteer management
- Maintain a volunteer database on our CRM (Beacon)
- Coordinate volunteering opportunities and schedules
Volunteer engagement
- Create and implement mechanisms for volunteer retention and recognition, to ensure volunteers feel valued, connected, and motivated
- Gather feedback from volunteers regularly to improve the volunteer experience
Person specification
We see in this role someone who is:
- Empathetic
- Well organised
- A fan of systems and processes
- People-oriented
- Resourceful

As a volunteer you will enjoy the following benefits:
- Mentoring opportunities from the Centre in any areas of your interest (up to 2 hours a month)
- Join the staff team when team activities are organised
- Professional references for job opportunities

- Access to discounts for cultural events when offered to the Centre team
